Good afternoon, and Irene and I hope you are enjoying the really spectacular Bend Fall weather. Around mid-day today we were out riding around with Desi (our three-year-old Boxer and one of the top candidates for club mascot, Werner being the other), and she had her head out the window the whole trip, eyes closed, big grin on her jowly clown face and enjoying every second of the 80-degree weather.
But I digress, as usual and already. The reason for this message is to remind you that we have our last General Meeting of the year this coming Wednesday, October 8, at the Bend Senior Center (off Reed Market Road) at 6 PM in the South Events Room. Chair setup begins at 5:40 if you wanna come early to help.
There are a number of items on the agenda and I will list only a few later. But right now I will remind you that we will be voting on a complete rewrite of the bylaws made necessary, in the board’s opinion, by the major growth of the club and the type of organization now required to run this large a group. If you would like to review the new bylaws, what follows is the “meat” of the email previously put out to help you access these revised bylaws in advance of the meeting. You will be then able to vote yes or no with an informed mind. A majority, yes or no, on these changes from those members present at this meeting will dictate whether or not the bylaws are put into place. You will have an opportunity to ask questions about the bylaw changes in advance of the vote.
The club bylaws are scheduled for a member vote at the General Meeting on October 8. The proposed bylaws have been posted on the BPC website HERE for member review and comment. Please take a few minutes to read through and consider the bylaws. .
Viewing the bylaws will require you to log-in to the system using your email and password. Don’t know your password? Reset it here: http://www.bendpickleballclub.com/member-profile/ and click “Forgot password” at the bottom of the screen. Password reset instructions will be sent to your email.
As previously mentioned, a variety of other issues to be discussed. These will include a recap of the year, status of the new courts, anticipated changes to the use of courts next year including clarification of challenge court rules, proposed training changes including ideas that may increasing the number of available trainers and mentors, the end of season Treasurer’s Report, a few operational issues including announcement of the new court-operations team and 2015 tournament status, a “year-end” status of membership, and (perhaps of greatest significance to those of us staying in Bend through the winter) the proposed schedule of play at the Boys and Girls Club and the potential for play outdoors at Pine Nursery during the winter (obviously when weather permits).
I should mention that Kirk Foster, VP of the club and Director of Communications, assumes the duties of President during the winter season and he will lead the overall discussion about winter play.
I’m looking forward to seeing each of you at this important last meeting of the summer season.
Thanks very much, and see you Wednesday evening.
A.J. Fraties, President, Bend Pickleball Club
